Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as a general reporter. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. She traveled along with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss issues like the Iran Contra scandal.
